We explore the UNESCO World
Heritage Center in Rjukan, visit
Vemork - the most famous World War
2 site in Norway, take the train and
funicular deep inside the mountain to
reach Gaustatoppen, where we can
see 1/6 of Norway on a clcear day. We
visit Gaustablikk - a beautiful
mountain resort in summer and cool
vintersport area in Winter. We also
take a look at the historic train at Mel,
the remote area of Imingfjell.

Rjukan is located in a narrow valley,
where the sun disappears in the city
in September and stays behind
Gaustatoppen until March each
year. To give the inhabitants a
glimse of the sun earlier, a huge
mirror was installed at a mountain
ridge at the northern side of Rjukan
in 2013.
Gaustablikk Mountain Resort is the
main hotel at Gausta, located next
to the ski slopes (both cross country
and downhill) and is a beautiful
place to visit in summer as well. The
hotel has a spa, huge pool and two
fantastic floating saunas on the
lake in front of the hotel.
One of Rjukan´s major attractions is
Krossobanen, the oldest functional
gondola lift in the Nordic Region, It
was built and opened by Norsk
Hydro in 1928 to help the people of
Rjukan up into the sun in the winter
season.
Almost at the top of Gaustatoppen,
at 1830 m you can visit the
touristcabin. This is a cafe with
room for 40 guest and a place to
stay for 11 guest.
Gausta is best known for its famous
Mount Gaustatoppen, and as as a
skiresort in winter. It has, however,
also a lot to offer to visitors in
summer.
Vemork Power Plant was when it
opened in 1911 the world´s largest
power plant, but it also played a
main role in the most famous
sabotage operation in Norway
during World War 2
Gaustatoppen is one of Norway´s
most famous mountains. On a clear
day, you can see as much as 1/6 of
Norway and all the way to Denmark
from the top.
One of Norway´s most spectacular
attractions is Gaustabanen, a former
secret millitary tramway which
brings you up to Gaustatoppen
inside the mountain in just 15
minutes.
If you want to experience how
corporate VIP´s stays when visiting
Norway, you now have that
opportunity in Rjukan. Norsk
Hydro´s former representation villa,
the Rjukan Admini building was
converted to a small hotel with 15
rooms in 2015.
At the top of Krossobanen in
Rjukan, the oldest functional
gondola lift in the Nordic Region,
you will find Krosso Fjellstue. This is
a modern restaurant with
spectacular view of both Rjukan
and Mount Gaustatoppen.
As part of Norway´s industrial
development at the start of the last
century, the Rjukan Line - an
industrial train line between Mæl
Station and lake Tinnsjøen played
an important role. Today it is a
tourist attraction and part of
Rjukan-Notodden UNESCO World
Heritage Center.
