To present the restaurant scene in Norway through videos is a huge and difficult task, which we have no intentions to do in the short while. All the major cities in Norway has a wide selection of restaurants, from Michelin starred fine dining to food trucks, but the covid crisis in the restaurant industry have forced most of them to close and many will never open its doors again, including some on our list. But we still feel that restaurants have to be a part of Norwaycation and start with the survivors we have visited. Flåm has several exciting places to eat, from a viking hall to a historic private dining room. From food trucks with international dishes to fine dining with local produce from both the fjords and the farms in the area.

Almost at the top of Gaustatoppen, at 1830 m you can visit the touristcabin. This is a cafe with room for 40 guest and a place to stay for 11 guest.

At the top of Krossobanen in Rjukan, the oldest functional gondola lift in the Nordic Region, you will find Krosso Fjellstue. This is a modern restaurant with spectacular view of both Rjukan and Mount Gaustatoppen.

Cafe Mocca is our favourite brunch and lunch cafe in the centre of Geilo. A wide selection of mouthwatering sandwiches, croasssaints and pastries, and some soups.

Vestlia Resort has a lounge and a skibar which serves great lunch dishes until 1700. You can either sit in the sofas or low lounge chairs or by one of the round tables next to the main restaurant.

Bergen Brunsj is an small and cosy cafe withe a very nice loation by Lille Lungegårdsvann in the center of Bergen

RELAXED RESTAURANTS

Cafe Norge is a new restaurant at Hotel Norge, Bergen´s most renowned hotel, which has been fully refurbished, and recently reopened

As the name gives away, the restaurant Teatro lies among the Bergen Theatres and shows, and is a perfect place to start or finish an evening out in Bergen.

MM Cafe & Bar is located in the very center of Bergen, it´s the pink building next to Hotel Norge. Former known as Dickens, this is and has been for almost 40 years a meetingplace and restaurant in Bergen.

Storm Kitchen and Bar lies in the center of Bergen. The location is as good as it gets, amoung all the theatres in Bergen, and only a few steps away from "Den blå stenen" (The Blue Stone), the very centre of Bergen.

Sofia's Restaurant & Bar at Bardøla Fjelltun is our favorite restaurant in Geilo with great food and affordable prices. After being closed for refurbishment in the summer and autumn of 2021, it has just reopened in a new and larger version.

Bowl & Dine is a classic American Diner which ended up in the mountains of Norway. The restaurant and bowling alley at Dr. Holms Hotel in Geilo is an interesting alternative to downhill or cross country skiing and hygge in a mountain log cabin.

Bien Snackbar is located at Danmarksplass, a few stops with the light train from downtown Bergen. The restaurant is known to have some of the best burgers in Bergen, and is always crowdy.

Opus XVI is a luxury boutique hotel with 65 rooms in the center of Bergen.It was the first hotel in Bergen to bring over the English tradition of Afternoon Tea, which is served in their restaurant each Saturday and Sunday.

Colonialen Kranen in Bergen is known for great lunchs in a great location with cool architecture. Located in an old crane in the area that many years ago was the shipyard in Solheimsviken.

Villa Paradiso is a restaurant chain serving italian food. The Bergen branch has one of the best locations at Torgalmenningen in the city center. The pizza is prepared in a huge wood fired stone oven.

When entering the restaurant Centro, you are met by an aroma that takes you back to Italy. Centro is part of the Bien group of restaurants in Bergen. With Centro, the focus is on everyone’s favourite - the Italian kitchen, and pizzas Napoli style.

Highland Bakeri & Pizzeria is located in the lounge of the hotel in Geilo and has a nice selection of buns and bread in the bakery and a great pizza and pasta menu. They claim it is the best pizza in Norway …

At the top of hotel Scandic Ørnen you will find the restaurant Roast. Use the lift from the hotel lobby and go to the 13th floor. Here you have an amazing view over Bergen in two directions, both the city centre and the Bergen Valley.

If a restaurant is the reason for a journey, you have to offer someting spectacular. It can be Michelin Star or Stars, a special location or spectacular architecture. The restaurant Under in Lindesnes check all these boxes. We have included it here for its different view - the underwater version

The restaurant at the top of Mount Fløien in Bergen got its focus when the 2017 UCI Road World Championships individual time trial had its finish line right outside the entrance door.

Which are the finest, the most exclusive, and naturally the most expensive restaurants in Bergen? In this video we present the best.

Lysverket is located by the Kode museums, overlooking lake Lille Lungårdsvann in the heart of Bergen. The restaurant opened its doors in 2013, by a chef with back- ground from top restaurants in New York and a pop star from Bergen.

The famous Norwegian chef and Bocuse d´Or winner Ørjan Johanessen and his family, known for their hotel and restaurants in Bekkjarvik in Western Norway have opened a new restaurant at Highland Lodge in Geilo

Colonialen Litteraturhuset or ”House of Literature” lies in the middle of Bergen. It is a hidden gem, tucked away on a cobbled side street, close to the famous fish- market. It may be slightly hard to find, but well worth it.

Fargegaten - «The Colour Street» - is one of Stavanger´s most popular and Instagram friendly attractions and in the evening, one of the best party areas with all its bars and restaurants.

Renaa Xpress is a relaxed restaurant in Stavanger´s most central location in Sølvberget - with the cinema and library as the closest neighbours. On the menu are breakfast, pancakes, sour dough sandwiches, salads, soups and 15 different pizzas from the wood fired oven.

Sirkus Renaa, located just a short walk from the centre of Stavanger, is a great mix of an ice cream parlour, a bakery and pastry shop, a sand- wich shop, a pizzeria, a chocolate shop, a lunch and dinner restaurant and a bar.

Flåm Bakeri is located by the seafront at the main pier in Flåm. Here you can choose from a wide range of sandwiches, pastry, bread, ice cream and take away pizza. If you are a cruise tourist, the bakery is a perfect place to stock up some food before you go on an excursion.

If you want a special dining experience in Flåm, visit Ægir Brewpub. Here you can enjoy Viking inspired lunch and dinner, and of course beer from the micro brewery in real viking surroundings

Arven Restaurant at Fretheim Hotel, the exclusive hotel in Flåm, offers both a fine dining a-la-carte menu with local produce and great buffets where most of the food are from the fjords and local farms in the area. Here you will, in our opinion get the best food in Flåm.

Fiskebrygga (The Fish Wharf) is an maritime area with restaurants, a fishmarket and ice cream parlours. It is located in Kristiansand, more precisely between Kvadraturen and the edge of Odderøya island.

A visit to Bekkjarvik Gjestgiveri, a small historic hotel by the mouth of a fjord outside Bergen and the home of masterchef and Bocuse d´Or winner Ørjan Johannessen.

Just half an hours drive outside Bergen you will find Havnechefen Restaurant, a cool lunch and dinner restaurant which focus on great seafood and dishes full of taste.

Mandelhuset Restaurant in Våge on the island of Tysnes in Vestland is a great place for lunch and dinner in beautiful maritime settings. If you have a table outside, you are literally dining on the water and can enjoy the boats and life in the harbour.

Nikkers is a cool restaurant with a great outdoor terrace in the summer, located by the Mesna River in the center of Lillehammer.
