Often referred to as the most beautiful part of Norway, Norfjord has a lot to offer. Even if the
glaceiers are on retreat, both the Briksdal Glacier and the Kjenndal Glacier is still here. The
small villages of Olden and Loen has a lot of visitors. In the Loen Valley, you will find
Lovatnet, known as the most Instagram friendly place in Norway. In Loen you can stay at
one of Norway’s best luxury hotels, Alexandra. You can also take the spectacular Loen Skylift
to the top of the mountains where you have an amazing view of the fjord, the steep
mountains and the different valleys. Here are both Via Ferrata tracks and challenging hiking
opportunities, like Skålatårnet. Stryn is the main canter of the area and offers shopping,
restaurants and hotels. Further up the mountain, you can visit Norway’s largest summer ski
resort. Olden has a busy cruise port, with an increasing number of annual visits.

The Olden River is one of the most
beautiful salmon rivers in Norway
It is located in Olden, a major
Norwegian cruise port in Norfjord.
The river ends up in the center of
Olden and is easy to spot for visitors
and cruise tourists.
Deep in a fjord in the western part
of Norway you will find one of the
best luxury hotels and spas in
Norway. A perfect base for summer
skiing, glaciers, via ferrata climbing,
salmon fishing, cycling and hiking.
Since the glaciers are melting,
Nordfjord needed a new attraction.
The solution was the amazing Loen
Skylifts which brings the visitors up
to an amazing view of the fjords
and valleys.
In Lodalen Valley, you will find the
other glacier in the area. On your
way you pass Lake Loen, one of the
most popular instagram spots in
Norway because of its beauty. You
can go to the lake by a tourist boat
or follow the road, perfect for biking.
In front of the lake is a small cafe
where you also can learn about the
dark tsunami history of the valley a
century ago.
The Briksdal Glacier is the most
famous glacier in the area. It is
located at the inner end of Olden
Valley. The visitor center has a huge
parking lot where you can leave your
car and hike up to the glacier and
the lake in front. It takes about one
hour up the gravel road, but it is
possible to rent transportation. ATVs
has replaces the horses
Loen is a small village in Nordfjord
with two huge hotels, among these
the famous Hotel Alexandra. In
Loen you will also find the SkyLift
and a Via Ferrata route. The area is
very popular with hikers where the
Skåla Tower an 1800 meters is the
main goal for many of them.
Olden is the home of the cruise port
and many explore the area by foot
or by the small trains. If you want to
see more than the small village, you
should continue up the valley, which
ends by the Briksdal Glacier. On the
way you pass the beautiful Olden
river and Oldenvatnet lake. There
are several hiking routes here, both
along the river and up to an
amazing viewpoint at Løken Sæter
(rough walk on old road, 1 hour)
Singerheimen was built by the
Singer family (American steel
magnats), since they loved the
Olden Valley. After their death it was
testamented to a foundation. It has
been possible to stay in the building,
and is popular by many of the
salmon fishers in the Olden River.
The property was listed in 2021.
Salmon fishing is very popular in the
area, where both the Olden River,
Loen River and Stryn River is
popular by the anglers. The fishing
slots are well sought after and
difficult to get hold of. Some slots
are available in certain periods.
