Norway has a lot of mountain tops and deep valleys. This means we also have a lot of great viewpoints. Some of them you have to struggle hard to reach, but others have been made accessible for all of us. The Norwegian Road Authorities have made several amazing places to stop in their National Roads program, among these are some very cool viewpoints, like Stegastein, Vøringsfossen and Trollstigen. In this section we take a closer look at some of the many cool viewpoints, both the accessible ones and some of the ones that are harder to reach. Tap on each of the images below to open the video
Viewpoints
It has been much controversy surrounding the new viewpoint in Arendal. But now it is there, and from a visitors point of view, it is a great attraction and a landmark
At the top of Krossobanen in Rjukan, the oldest functional gondola lift in the Nordic Region, you will find Krosso Fjellstue. This is a modern restaurant with spectacular view of both Rjukan and Mount Gaustatoppen.
Skansen is a viewpoint in Bergen and a great alternative to go all the way up to Mount Fløyen to get an overview of the city. It is possible to walk up in just 10-20 minutes in a quite steep hike
The Stegastein Viewpoint is a piece of impressive architecture located about 30 min with bus from Flåm and has a magnificent view over Aurlandsfjorden from 640 m above.
Gaustatoppen is one of Norway´s most famous mountains. On a clear day, you can see as much as 1/6 of Norway and all the way to Denmark from the top.
If you want a spectacular view of Bergen, visit Mount Ulriken. This is the highest mountain in Bergen and has a spectacular view over Bergen and its surroundings. Access with new (2021) gondola lift
Vøringsfossen Waterfall is propably the most spectacular waterfall in Norway. This is a visit to the magnificent viewing platform at the top of the waterfall.
The third stage of the development of the spectacular viewpoint connects both areas with walkways, a new parking area and restrooms.
A spectacular step bridge over Vøringsfossen, which makes it possible to walk over the 182 meter high waterfall.
Fløibanen is a funicular which brings you from the center of Bergen and up to Mount Fløyen. Here you have an amazing view of Bergen, a restaurant and cafe, playgrounds and a lot of hiking tracks.
From the top of the 1994 Olympic ski jump you have great view of Lillehammer. Today it is one of the hills used in the ski jump world cup and the last years as part of the Raw Air competition
At the starting point of Flåm Ziplaine at the top of the Flåm Valley you will also find a viewing platform with magnificent view of the mountains and valley
At the western part of the Hardangervidda Mountain Plateau, where the mountains dive into the fjords, you will find one of Norway´s largest dams. This is also a tourist attraction for both visitors passing by their car and for cruise tourists visiting Eidfjord in Hardanger.
A paraglider flying over the stunning Stegastein viewpoint several times in beautiful weather with Aurlandsfjorden and the Unesco World Heritage site of Nærøyfjorden as a backdrop.
