Trains, funiculars, gondolas & tramways
The magnificent stretch of railroad from Flåm, Aurlandsfjorden and the UNESCO site of Nærøyfjorden up to the mountains of Myrdal at 867 m above sea level. The one hour railroad trip takes you over rivers, through 20 tunnels, steep mountain sides and great waterfalls.
A major attractions in Rjukan is Krossobanen, the oldest functional gondola lift in the Nordic Region, It was built and opened by Norsk Hydro in 1928 to help the people of Rjukan up into the sun in the winter season.
One of Norway´s most spectacular attractions is Gaustabanen, a former secret millitary tramway which brings you up to Gaustatoppen inside the mountain in just 15 minutes.
As part of Norway´s industrial development at the start of the last century, the Rjukan Line - an industrial train line between Mæl Station and lake Tinnsjøen played an important role. Today it is a tourist attraction and part of Rjukan-Notodden UNESCO World Heritage Center.
Voss Gondol is the new gondola lift in Voss which opened its doors in 2019. The gondola brings guest up in the mountains of Voss all year round, giving acces to the ski slopes in winter and biking and hiking tracks in summer. At the top is a restaurant
The venue where the Lillehammer 1994 Olympic Opening and Closing ceremony took place, and where the Olympic ski jump competitions were held. Today it is one of the hills used in the ski jump world cup.
It has been much controversy surrounding the new viewpoint in Arendal. But now it is there, and from a visitors point of view, it is a great attraction and a landmark
If you want a spectacular view of Bergen, visit Mount Ulriken. This is the highest mountain in Bergen and has a spectacular view over Bergen and its surroundings. Access with new (2021) gondola lift
Fløibanen is a funicular which brings you from the center of Bergen and up to Mount Fløyen. Here you have an amazing view of Bergen, a restaurant and cafe, playgrounds and a lot of hiking tracks.
